Thema: Football shame !

2010-12-03 11:12:07
yeah, thats why qatar are building all the training facilities underground and putting massive fans in the stadiums.
2010-12-03 11:15:14
they are putting massive fans in the stadium??? How do they know that England will qualify to justify such massive fat fans??? :D
2010-12-03 11:21:21
QATAR : Money ...
2010-12-03 11:33:43
Honestly, from this choice: Australia, Japan, Korea Republic, Qatar or USA ...
imho it was basically down to Australia vs Qatar.
Japan + Korea hosted the 2002 WC and USA the 1994 WC. There's no good reason to have them host a WC this soon again.
From Australia vs Qatar I'd have preferred Australia, though it would mean a lot of trouble for most viewers (= europeans, africans + americans as well).

Still, there's a bad feeling about lots of corruption in the background.

But it would be 2022. That would be nearly 30 years, and Mexico hosted WC just 16 years apart.

I do agree about Australia though.

But really, what football pedigree do Qatar have? I think Roberto Carlos played there for a season but that's all.

By this logic, the Summer Olympics will soon be held in Antarctica, with a promotional video entitled "Pingu's Sports Day"
2010-12-03 12:32:51
Well, the USA ain't know for their great football history either. There's more football tradition than in Qatar but not as much as in football crazy countries in Europe or South America,

By that logic you would only give the tournaments to a few countries like England, Brazil, Argentina, Netherlands, Germany and such.

Where to draw the line?

Spain/Portugal was better option than Russia for us-Poles.

i'm basically surprised when i got home from work and heard from my little brother, whose watched the bidding in tv, that russia n qatar won that bid. i thought it would be england -since the first n the last WC they've held was in '66 despite they have euro '96- and USA -'coz imo their video presentation is good-. i also take Aussie as a serious candidate 'coz it would be the first world cup for them.

but i'm agree with the result.. for both countries it's their first time to held WC.. new host country?new atmosphere experience?why not??just give them a chance.. plus at russia 2018 if you have the ticket match, you won't need to pay for the transportation to the stadium.. and for the zone time, it wouldn't be a problem for me...since the USA '94 i've watched almost all matches..in fact, watch it in the middle of the night along with some friends is a great experience although you'll be sleepy for works in the next morning... :D

but we should new countries be constantly getting it? Russia was the 'worst' of the bids according to fifa and qatar was the 'worst' in the 2022 one too.

Why should footballing strongholds such as England and Spain be overlooked because they had it before. Noone can deny that the PL is the biggest league in the world with the biggest and best stadiums and the best fans. Yet we wont be having for at least 60 years.

Its like being at school where the worst pupils get the treats and the best pupils are just expected to do well and put up with it with no reward.

Noone can deny that the PL is the biggest league in the world with the biggest and best stadiums and the best fans.,

This is not true. The Bundesliga has a higher attendance than the PL for example.
And who can really judge about the quality of fans?!?
2010-12-03 14:53:51
Thank god Spain/Portugal didn't get it or we(EU-members) would have to pay loads of money to get them out of financial trouble after they have built/renovated all the buildings to meet the standards and found out their pockets are empty:P

In Qatar games are probably mostly being played indoors(like some games in USA 94) so maybe that was a factor aswell(something bit different).

And well, England has it all already, FIFA has always promoted football in different countries to make it popular worldwide, not only South America/Western Europe. Probably would have been boring to hold the competition there(like 2006 was boring because it was in a well-established country, where only Zidane made the tournament interesting:P)

And Russia is good choice because now i only got 140km to the nearest World Cup game ;)
2010-12-03 15:06:56
It's even closer for the forthcoming EURO, eh? ;)
2010-12-03 15:13:20
no way, Polska and Ukraine are like 1000km from here:P
2010-12-03 15:37:23
Nearest Polish Euro city, Gdansk, is about as far as Moscow is from your localization :P

PL is the biggest league in the world with the biggest and best stadiums and the best fans.

I don't agree about best fans tbh, the only really good example is Liverpool, perhaps squeezing in 1 or 2 more clubs' fans.
2010-12-03 18:18:26
+ they don't exactly have the biggest stadiums, Camp Nou, Bernabeu, Mestalla etc..
