I appreciate when players get to 30+ age that they start losing skills.

But, is there any thoughts about how many skills (roughly) these guys lose at which ages. And is there an age where I should never look to buy because they would be next to useless in no time?

Thanks.

It does depend a little on whether you intend to fill a training spot with them, amongst other things.

Pace although the slowest to train is the quickest to drop. Talent is also a factor in skill drops.

Bensted is 33yo and he still has divine technique because he is very talented and gets continual training.

If a player has only just popped to a skill, they can drop a level as early as 28yo. Sometimes they go almost straight back up as there is some random element to training.

Have i helped so far?!

It really isn't clear cut! In recent seasons i bought a 34yo striker, and he started to reduce in skills very quickly; every few weeks or so in high skills.

thanks for that.

Would you ever consider buying a 37yr old or is that too old?

I would not buy a 37 year old

I would buy a 34 year old though might last 1 to 2 seasons... If however your near term goals are very important even a 35 year old can be bought for just one season...

IMO too old yes. I once bought a 33yo striker in my third season playoff match just for one game. Lost the match but sold him for a profit in silly season!

Similarly to Muha's post, a 33/34yo is OK for one season, but better for just a title decider/relegation play-off etc.

only buy players at that age if dirrrrt cheap. Assume you get £0 when you sell.

I bought a 37yo reserve keeper. Simple reason that I wanted some form of cheap reserve keeper for my bench in case of in-game injury, however if I got a major long term keeper injury I would then properly enter the transfer market for a "proper one"

37 is too old but you can make a lot of things with 30-32 year old players (until your young team gets to the competitive level required).
A lot of people will say that you loose training spots but its a good cover up to use when you need results.
