Ive spent all last season training defence and have them all up to formidable and outstanding. This season i plan to train my midfield in passing but i would also like to train my defence in this. Would it work if I played my best team for my league games then moved my defence into the midfield for my friendly. Would this then then train them both in passing?

The short answer is yes....

but remember you can't play anyone in defence in the friendly who you played in midfield in the league game - otherwise they'll not receive passing training.

As an alternatively, you could leave your defenders in defensive positions, but change their match orders to MID. As its the match orders, not position that is used for training.
Then just stick some cannon fodder in midfield with DEF orders.

pro's - your first team defenders are less likely to drop in tactical discipline
con's - for the friendly, your defenders will be more likely to try and dribble the ball out of defence, whilst the midfielders will just hoof it in to touch rather than looking for a passing opportunity.

This isn't true.

If a player plays in two different positions during the week he receives training in whatever was his last position played.

So a Mid then playing Def will get training in Def.

It is in the rules under training...

A player who played in the same position (ie, as a def) twice during the week will train better than one who played in only one game. Similarly, a player who played in an official match will train better than one who just played in a friendly. If a player played in two different positions during the week, the last match counts. The benefit of playing a player with the same match order twice is small - they will receive near full training by playing 1 match. If they play only in an international, they will receive around 50% of the normal training. Players do not receive training in extra time as they are too tired.

Sorry Jaize, which bit isn't true?

Maybe you could read the whole of my response before jumping in with both feet.

Besides, you've assumed he was going to swap his mids and defenders. He hasn't stated this in his question. btw he has 23 players, so enough to put replacements into his defence.

Ok you have 10 trainees.

You need to play 5 trainees in your league games with mid orders, then play 5 trainees in your friendly with mid orders. But you must make sure that the five mid trainees from the league game DO NOT play any other position order in the friendly or they will lose their training. It's happened to me a couple times and it sucks.

It's up to you to decide how to split them up, maybe a fullback in the league game can get mid orders because you want to give your holding mid def orders for the important game.

It depends on your formation, so it's hard to say play defenders this, mids that. I normally try to give the best orders possible for the league game and just piece it together for the friendly.

reread it, my bad, it wasn't not true.
I apologise.

Is stamina the only thing that the whole squad would train in? I mean if i train my midfield and pace then it is just those that recieve the training or the whole squad?

stamina - trained by entire sqaud (whether they play in any part of a match or not)

pace - trained by all players that play that week (so a max of 22 players) - doesn't matter if the player plays with GK, DEF, MID or ATT orders, so long as they played 90 minutes they'll get near max pace training.

NB: only 11 players will get training this week with just the 1 match!

defender, PM, passing, Tech, Striker, GK - are all trained @ 100% only by the selected position.

E.g. players playing with ATT orders receive 100% striker training when you train striker, but your players playing with MID orders will receive 50% striker training at the same time.
