Thema: Need a small cash injection?

2009-03-02 16:02:19
To be honest, all the teams I e-mailed were online in the last couple of days, so almost by default they have passed the will they stay/won't they stay test.
It is the other teams we need to worry about in terms of growing the English game.
I pay £210k or so a week in player and coach wages, which is far more than I earn, so even if I could make a few extra k a week playing friendlies against higher ranked teams it would make little difference. Might as well share the love...

You're not wrong, you're totally right, and i'm writing one :-) behind the scenes the dev's are finally starting to see that sokker is not very newbie friendly, and are opening up to ideas and changes.

Great news - well done DJ

At long last the great Sokker game may grow

I suspect I might be slightly Darwinian here, but if people are unable/unwilling to put in the effort to get into the game, then perhaps they are better off elsewhere.
The truth, as Mulder might say, is out there. Such as it is. Just have to look for it.
But then, I am old. And grumpy. I remember when we had summers.

I remember when we had real winters - so that shows my old age

I still believe if a player signs up to Sokker - they need a structured & logical tutorial to help them be successful in the first few seconds - minutes - days & weeks.

That will help them understand the basics of the game, & feel they are progressing successfully for their future glory

I still don't know a person that signs up for an on-line game & expect instant failure????

Personally, I think the biggest problem with SK is also it's greatest feature (once you're established). Namely, it's real time nature with a week between league games, etc.

As a new user I was itching to do something, anything... so in the absense of matchess you end up expanding your stadium, or buying inappropriate players and blowing what little money you start with because you want to 'play'!

So i see the biggets benefit of a tutorial as being something to keep new users from losing everything, whilst also allowing them to interact with the game early doors.

I know that the second thing I do whenever I start a game is check out the forum. Any new player that joins and reads what is already posted, plus reads the rules (which is the first thing to do) is ready to roll.
The problem seems to be that people are not getting even as far as reading the rules. Of course we should offer advice and help to new players, but to an extent that is preaching to the converted.
Oh and I remember the 70s. Do I win..?

Great idea, thanks to those involved. I've only been here a few weeks but already I can see that cash is v.limited... :?

Cheers!

You're spot on; Sokker will never appeal to the masses in my opinion because of it's structure. Other "more successful" manager games i've played in the past grab the user much more, and have more going on. Sokker in comparison is a very slow game, but there is still so many things that can be done to retain the ones that do join.

I don't have much free time at the moment (you're having a laugh i hear you all cry, but most of my usage comes from my phone at work, naughty me) outside of work, but i am looking at writing up all sorts of things that i think will benefit user retention, and one of those is a tutorial.

Sokker is harder to navigate than walking through the Amazon blindfolded without a compass, and as i said before, finally, the SK team are prepared to listen to ideas, and hopefully a tutorial is something that can be pushed their way.

Just don't expect it soon.

A scary truth: juanino introduced me to ht and sokker at the same time. After a couple of weeks, I was ready to leave sokker, based on it's initial complexity in comparison to ht & the effort required to get up and running. Thankfully, he persuaded me to do otherwise - and this game is so superior it's untrue.

Some sort of tutorial would be fantastic - and if you've played any part in making it become an eventual reality then you have my gratitude.

With regard to general comments concerning new players, I have to repeat: They need to help themselves first. Like in ht, sokker requires PATIENCE. You can't come in and expect instant success, and to have "fun" in the long-term you have to do boring stuff to begin with. If a new user comes along, decides "I want to win now", doesn't read the rules, buys better players, makes a wholly unneccesary stadium expansion before they've had a chance to fill their current occupancy, then notices they're heading for bankruptcy - they only have themselves to blame. There are, thankfully, MANY users willing to assist new teams, but if a newbie only wants help when it's too late then not much can be done. :-/

I agree with that DanVan1

HT has a challenging type tutorial from second 1 for new players - & Sokker needs to have the same (or better with any luck)

I agree with you as well

New players need a challenge from second 1 - & then another new challenge & another new challenge - so they know they are progressing well.

From brand new team to week 3 - that is the crucial time to get their interest & hook them into Sokker for the longer term

No mistakes, & every positive encouragement is what’s needed

The Sokker game is very challenging & complex game - so if players understand the basics - they will also appreciate the huge challenge & go for it

Sorry. I'm out again next week as I've made the final.

Welcome to Sokker freeradicals! :)

Yes sokker is difficult than other browser games, but more competitive I find and thus more interesting as there are many things to contemplate.

Did you read the newbie guides and Rules? If you got questions make sure you ask them, you will find the most experienced guys here from England answering you.

Once again nice to see a new face :). Keep posting man.

I cant understand though how my reserve guys drew against your reserves man. :P
